Backup Wii Games

After a long week at school, you are totally excited to go back home and grab hold of your Wii console and play all night long. You actually planned to kick “sleep” out of your vocabulary. But as you checked your console, you realized that all your games were scratched, and obviously, unplayable. Then you cry.

Tragic and traumatic events like these require you to do one thing: backup Wii games. Scratched or lost, you can still play your beloved Wii games if you make a backup of them. You don’t need to roll over and cry in front of your Mom in order for you to buy another copy of the game. This kind of protection for your games may be pricey, but it is worth every penny you spend for you can absolutely use it to protect all other games that you have.

There are two ways to backup Wii games: Wii modchipping and softmodding.

Wii Modchipping

Bright side of Wii modchipping:

Allows you to play Wii games burned on a blank DVD (burned using ANY copying or burning software). What happens here is that the chip allows the DVD to be read as a legitimate Wii diisk.

*Warning* Not-so-Bright Side of Wii modchipping:

  • Installing the chip requires opening the Wii console and doing so terminates the warranty of your console.
  • Opening the Wii itself is accompanied with risks. And if ever the chip is improperly installed, it can damage the console beyond repair!
  • Some chips out there are cheap in terms of quality. You may be unfortunate enough and pick the inferior and flimsy ones, and sooner or later, you’ll need (again!) another new chip.
  • You can no longer install the Wii updates.

I don’t recommend this approach!

Softmodding

A better way is softmodding.

*Good* Bright side of softmodding:

  • No need of buying and installing of a chip. Moreover, you don’t put your console at risk by physically opening it.

Not-so-Bright Side of softmodding: You will be unable to utilize free versions of copying or burning software to create your backups.

However, softmodding presents relatively smaller and fewer risks than using the modchip, so many Wii fanatics prefer this method. However, it is really up to you what to choose and pick. But you have been forewarned and informed Wii freaks! Enjoy your time playing your Wii games! :-)
